Working as part of a research group focusing on biofuels and biofuel additives from sustainable sources. I worked on a study into the production of fuel additives using polymer immobilized ionic liquids (PIIL) as catalysts. This opportunity took place in the summer before my final year of BEng Chemical Engineering under the supervision of Dr Haresh Manyar. The project was a collaboration between Newcastle University and Queen’s Ionic Liquid Laboratories.
The project expanded my confidence and skills in the lab and encouraged me to pursue research. The project was highly enjoyable and culminated in the opportunity to present my work to the QUILL industrial partners as a presentation and in the form of a poster presentation to the attendees of the Ken Seddon memorial and RSC MSDG Early Careers Research Meeting.
I remained a part of the project from September 2018-January 2019 but part-time due to classes.
Analytical techniques: GC, FTIR, XRD
